2024 Spring Election Candidates
President:
Liz Sullivan
Hi everyone! My name is Liz, and I am running for the position of MUSSA president for the 2024-2025 school year. Over the past two years I have had the pleasure of serving on the council in different positions, and have seen firsthand how important having a strong council is in order to best serve the MMSt and CDP community. As president, I will continue the work of previous council presidents to uphold commitments to students, including arranging a variety of social and academic events, working with faculty to ensure the best interests of students are always upheld, and maintaining clear and informative communications between council and students. My metaphorical door (aka email and other forms of communication) is always open, and I encourage you to reach out online or in person if there is ever anything you want to talk about! I look forward to continuing to meet and getting to know the MMSt and CDP students in the upcoming school year.
Vice-President:
Laura Prior
Hello! My name is Laura and I am putting forward my name for the position of Vice-President of MUSSA. After spending this last year as First Year Representative, I am eager to apply all that I have learned about our program, and all of the students within it, to a more senior position on the council. The role I currently hold has given me the opportunity to practice the skills of teamwork, time management, organisation, active listening, and problem solving in a way which will allow me to meaningfully support the next president. Beyond this, I also want to ensure that the best possible year happens by supporting all members of the council in their individual roles. For myself, this position offers the important opportunity to foster inclusivity, fairness, and fun in the operations of the upcoming council, and I really look forward to being able to play a part in contributing to this goal.

Social Chair:
Cate Racher-Gilpin
I worked as part of a collaborative team to facilitate all aspects of the executive team for the WLU history students association, where I helped to plan successful events such as a social dance, bowling events, Meet the Profs, and lectures from respected members of the community. I aim to help foster connections and collaboration between all of the MMSt and combined degree students, as well as celebrate our diversity. I look forward to bringing you a fun and social year ahead!

Social Chair:
Van Gonzales
Hey everyone! I'm thrilled to be running for the position of Social Chair for MUSSA. My goal is simple: let's have fun, make friends, and be cute! Big thank you to our previous Social Chair, Panni, who organized remarkable events and led us on exciting museum visits. I ‘m just hoping to continue her legacy! From our regular museum excursions to our recent trip to Montreal, I am committed to maintaining these opportunities for exploration and shenanigans. But hey, I'll need your help. As Social Chair, I'm not just planning stuff—I also want to hear from you! Whether it's exploring new museums, throwing themed parties, or just hanging out together to complain, I'm all ears for your ideas. I know it will get busier for us next year, especially for us upcoming second years, so I'll make sure that the events we organize are worth your time. In a field dedicated to memory-making, I’m sure we can make some fantastic ones together! Thank you and see you around!
Social Media Manager:
Iris Wu
Hello! My name is Iris Wu. I would like to nominate myself for the role of Social Media Manager within MUSSA. This year, I serve as the Social Media Assistant, where I had the opportunity to manage the MUSSA social media accounts, create engaging posts across various platforms, and introduce a new weekly program, Featured Friday. Through these experiences, I gained valuable insights into our audience's preferences and behaviors, as well as honed my skills in content creation, community engagement, and strategic planning. I’ve loved every minute of connecting with our awesome community online. If selected for this role, I am excited to build upon the foundation laid during my time as Social Media Assistant and lead our social media efforts to new heights. Thank you for considering me for this exciting role. I am excited about the opportunity to contribute to the continued success of our organization as Social Media Manager.

Social Media Manager:
Wenyi Shi
Heyyyy it's Wenyi (she/her)! I'm running for MUSSA Social Media Manager for the 2024-2025 academic year. The past year was my first year studying at the University of Toronto, also my first time entering Canada. From the orientation events to the many activities throughout the year, MUSSA has always been a welcoming community that offered friendship and support. And I can't be more excited to be a part of it. I have a strong background in visual art, graphic design, and advertising. I also have experience as the vice president of the Photography Club in my highschool (I know, I know, it’s a long time ago). The point is, I own a camera and will be able to take some good pictures and post them! As the social media manager, I hope to upkeep our presence on social media and engage with online audiences. As an executive, I’d like to bring more creativity to the table, and more importantly, make things look pretty. Thank you for voting, and good luck on our end-of-term assignments! :)
Musings Copy Editor:
Cate Racher-Gilpin
In my professional life, I spent 4 years writing and editing for a professional sports magazine based out of Montreal. I was part of a team that was invited to the NHL draft in 2018 and worked on reporting prospects for the Montreal Canadiens. And while it has been a few years, I also worked for my time at the school as a co-Editor in Chief of the Sheridan College student news website. Needless to say I know my way around a document and a keyboard! I look forward to working to bring you the coolest museum info as part of a team of real talented people.

Programs Committee Rep:
Emily Coneybeare
Hi I’m Emily (she/they)! I am running for MUSSA Programs Committee Representative. Being a CDP student, I know how much work is left to be done to make the programs more cohesive and I would love to use my experience working as an advocate for students to administration in my undergrad to continue the amazing work MUSSA has done to advocate for students in the past. I would like to continue the great work of the council this past year, which has had such a positive impact on the program. I hope that in this position I get to continue to meet and talk to different people! Thanks for reading and voting. :)
Alumni Association Rep:
Emily Coneybeare
Hi I’m Emily (she/they)! I am running for MUSSA Alumni Association Representative. I have enjoyed meeting the amazing people in our program and getting to know everything going on in our faculty, and I would love to use my experience working on student councils in my undergrad to connect students with new and exciting opportunities through the Alumni Association (it’s tough out there). I would like to continue the great work of the council this past year, which has had such a positive impact on the program. I hope that in this position I get to continue to meet and talk to different people! Thanks for reading and voting. :)
iConference Committee Rep:
Morghen Jael
Hi! My name is Morghen, and I’m finishing Year 2 of the CDP. I was this year’s iConference Committee Representative, and I would love to help out again next year. (I also volunteered for iConference 2023, before this MUSSA position existed!). This year, I did everything from setting up the Eventbrite to soliciting faculty panel members to scrubbing out recycling bins at the end of the day. I know the ins and outs of organizing this student event, and I am communicative and detail-oriented. Being in the CDP means I’m also well-connected across the iSchool. Most of all, though, I think the iConference is important—for professional development, relationship-building, and just hearing what our smart friends are working on. Next year, I hope to build on this year’s success by ensuring the iConference is well-funded by the faculty, putting on another “showcase,” and having better signage on the recycling bins so people hopefully won’t pour juice in there. Thanks for considering me!
