Winter 2020 Positions and Nominees
EXECUTIVE
President
Melissa Mertsis
Hi folks! I’m running to be your MUSSA President. As the current Social Media Manager, I’ve learned a lot about the hard work, dedication, and commitment that goes into making MUSSA great. I have existing relationships with Musings, iStudents for Mental Health, iSchool Info Days, the Inforum, and faculty, as well as external networking through volunteering at the Royal Ontario Museum and the Haley Sharpe Design Portfolio project. My campus-wide presence provides ample opportunity for collaboration, and ensures that your MUSSA President is extremely involved. I served on the Trent University Anthropology student council, including as VP, where I learned how to lead a group efficiently, transparently, and with students' best interests at heart.
As President, I want to better integrate Museum Studies into other areas of the Faculty through varied events in collaboration with other concentrations. I’d prioritize creating a stronger sense of community between MUSSA Executives and students, emphasizing relationship building between cohorts and improving our culture of camaraderie. Given some of the difficulties we faced this year, I am confident in our ability to support one another and make meaningful changes. I’d be proud to serve you all as President this year - thanks for your consideration! |
Vice President/GSU Representative/Chief Returning Officer
Jordan Vetter
Hi everyone, I'm excited for the opportunity to represent you as MUSSA's Vice President! I am keen to bring my love of the program and skills in organization, process efficiency and communication to help keep the council running from behind the scenes. If elected, I would work to ensure you receive timely, consistent and clear information through our various platforms.
I was pleased to serve as Treasurer this year, which allowed me to become familiar with MUSSA's proceedings and work with Faculty members to support our initiatives. Through my involvement with iSchool Info Days, the OMA and MMSt50 Conferences, and Haley Sharpe Design’s Portfolio Project, I have built important connections with staff, alumni and industry professionals that will serve me well in this role to keep students connected with one another and the UofT community. I have become well-versed in representing stakeholder needs and using technology for communication through my role as Communications Director for my undergrad program’s student association, as well as in my professional career as Project Manager for an online portal to share content with volunteers. I’m excited to work alongside all of you and our elected President to make our program the best it can be! |

Second Year Representative
Lindsay Chisholm
As the semester comes to an end, I’d like to reflect upon the successes and challenges that we have faced together, as a cohort. I would like to thank each of you for allowing me the opportunity to be your First Year Representative and hope that I will have your support in this coming year. I will continue to ensure your voice is heard and work towards making your final year a prosperous one. We as a cohort have had a wild run, so let’s face this next one together again. To the second years that are graduating, it is my goal that the finance class that I advocated for become available online. This way you will gain access to it. Congratulations to everyone and stay healthy y’all!

Musings
Musings Copy Editor
Erika Serodio
I hope we’ve already met, but if somehow that’s not the case, I’m Erika. I thrive in the depths of jumbled word documents and my favourite YouTube celebrity is a copy editor known as the Comma Queen. Over the past year, I’ve written many articles for the Musings blog as a contributing editor. In my MUSSA position this year as Musings Communication Officer, I worked closely with Ally and Jordan, the two second year students who shared the role of editor in chief. I came to understand that the Musings blog is what we, the students, choose to make it. In order to foster more dialogue between editors and a greater sense of a writing community, I started something new: story meetings. These were informal lunchtime chats with snacks and space to bounce writing ideas off the minds of fellow editors. I hope to continue this practice in the coming year, and to offer more opportunities for people to collaborate with their writing. To me, the position of Musings Copy Editor is to facilitate excellent writing that connects our program with the museum field beyond it. It would be a treat to edit and write with you all.

Musings Administrative Editor
Jaime Meier
Hey ya’ll! Thank you so much for electing me to be your secretary of MUSSA, I had a blast. Going into the next school semester, I am ready to take my writing skills to a new level by being the administration editor-in-chief of Musings. I’ve had the pleasure of writing the “Collections Corner” column of Musings for the past year and I look forward to continue working for the blog. Being the administrator of Musings would allow me to be more involved in a project I am passionate about and support the other editors involved. In addition to behind the scenes duties, I would also be in charge of social media. I have personal and professional experience in social media and I know I will do an excellent job of spreading the word about Musings and our amazing contributors (and hopefully toss in a meme here or there).

COMMITTEES
Admissions Committee Representative
Madison Carmichael

Hello all! My name is Madison, and I’d like to nominate myself for the position of Admissions Committee Rep. This past year, I represented Museum Studies students on the Programs Committee, where I provided a student perspective on various decisions made regarding the approval and evaluation of courses here at the faculty.
I hope to continue representing you all into next year as Admissions Committee Representative. In this position, I will work to ensure that the needs of the MMSt program are met in each and every meeting, and that student input makes its way to the committee. I will also ensure that any and all developments make their way back to MUSSA as well as to all of you! Thanks for your consideration!

Alumni Association Representative
Chantelle Perreault
I've had a great time this year getting to learn more about the field of museum work and the various disciplines that it involves. I'm inspired by the diverse interests of our peers in this program, and look forward to continuing to learn from all of you. I have a background in communications work and I would love to use that skill set as the Alumni Committee Representative for MUSSA. I've previously sat on committees for both event planning and charity planning, where I have learned skills in active listening and note taking. I believe that my initiative, organisation, and experience makes me a good candidate for this role.
